Risk Disclosure
1. Introduction
Before allocating capital with ForthDex, you should understand the material risks involved in digital-asset investing. This disclosure summarises those risks. It is not exhaustive. If any of these risks are unclear, seek independent professional advice before proceeding.
2. Market volatility
Digital-asset prices can move dramatically over short periods. A 30–50% drawdown in a matter of days is not unusual for major cryptocurrencies, and altcoins can lose even more. Allocated capital is exposed to this volatility. Our risk framework is designed to reduce — not eliminate — these losses.
3. No guarantee of returns
Any target, projected, or historical returns shown on this platform are illustrative and do not guarantee future performance. ForthDex does not promise a specific rate of return. You should not rely on past performance when deciding to allocate.
4. Custody and counterparty risk
Digital assets are held with regulated custody partners. Despite best-in-class controls, custody arrangements carry residual risks including operational failure, insolvency of a service provider, or security breaches. ForthDex is not liable for losses caused by the failure of a third-party custodian, subject to applicable law.
5. Smart-contract risk
DeFi strategies interact with smart contracts on public blockchains. Even audited contracts can contain bugs, be exploited, or behave unexpectedly. Where we deploy capital into DeFi, some or all of that capital may be lost due to a contract failure. We mitigate this by limiting exposure to audited, battle-tested protocols only, but the risk cannot be eliminated entirely.
6. Blockchain and network risk
- Transaction finality — on-chain transfers can be delayed, stuck, or reversed during network congestion or chain reorganisations.
- Network forks — protocol changes can affect asset values or usability.
- Loss of funds — sending crypto to an incorrect address or the wrong network results in permanent, unrecoverable loss.
- 51% attacks — smaller networks may be vulnerable to consensus attacks.
7. Regulatory risk
Digital-asset regulation is evolving rapidly and varies widely by jurisdiction. New laws, enforcement actions, or tax treatments can materially affect the value, liquidity, or legality of holding certain assets. Regulatory changes may force us to restrict services, delay withdrawals, or liquidate positions.
8. Liquidity risk
Some digital assets trade in thin markets. In stressed conditions, we may be unable to exit positions at favourable prices, or at all. Withdrawals may be delayed while positions are unwound.
9. Operational and technical risk
- Downtime of the platform, custody infrastructure, or payment networks;
- Delays in processing deposits or withdrawals due to network conditions;
- Errors in exchange oracles, pricing feeds, or data sources;
- Failure of underlying technology providers.
10. Tax consequences
Trading and holding digital assets can trigger tax obligations in your jurisdiction. Rules are complex and vary. ForthDex does not provide tax advice. You are solely responsible for determining and paying any taxes owed.
11. Concentration and strategy risk
Strategies may concentrate capital in a small number of assets or protocols. Concentration amplifies both gains and losses. Different strategies carry different risk profiles; you should understand the profile of any strategy before allocating.
12. No FDIC or government insurance
Digital assets held through ForthDex are not insured by the FDIC, SIPC, or any government scheme. If a custodian or counterparty fails, your assets may not be recoverable.
13. Suitability
Digital-asset investing is not suitable for everyone. You should consider your financial situation, investment objectives, risk tolerance, and experience before allocating capital. If in doubt, seek independent advice.
14. Acknowledgement
By allocating capital with ForthDex, you acknowledge that you have read and understood these risks, and that you accept them.
